  Thinking, rethinking: Italy
"Liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism -- ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power"

Franklin D. Roosevelt, April 29, 1938

Oh my god! I think the situation in Italy is awful! There's no way out as Berlusconi controls the main media channels... I have some italian friends and they always say that almost nobody in Italy wants Berlusconi to be president. And I asked but who voted him? And they always answer me : "It's complicated..."
What should we think about that?

I agree with you. I think too it is a very serious situation. And I think it's better to start reasoning in terms of: what can we do about it?

And about complications, it's not only via media that political 'consensus' and powers are being conquered. As for a small example: just recently the mayor of Salerno announced proven cases of votes being bought.

And think about this joke that i heard already some while ago, after one of the Berlusconi elections, when he grossly won on Sicily:
Castro calls Berlusconi and tells him, "Hear, even we know that winning 100% of the votes is not possible."
